An Israeli-based manufacturing company is planning to launch a North American headquarters and has picked Portage as the location. MCP USA Inc. says it will invest more than $11 million and add up to 60 jobs by 2019. The plastic meal-tray maker, which is a subsidiary of Plazit Industries Group and Kibbutz Hamaapil, plans to begin operations next summer.

Construction on the 91,000 square-foot facility is set to start in early 2018. Plans call for new office space, an extrusion line and three thermoforming machines making heat and cold-resistance trays supplying 12 U.S. distributors. Its customers are in the retail, airline, industrial and bakery industries in North and South America.

MCP USA says the jobs are expected to pay an average wage higher than the Porter County average for positions including machine operator, machine technician, logistics, maintenance, quality assurance, marketing and finance. Vice President of Sales and Marketing Eyal Tenenbaume says "following a long review, Indiana is a very friendly place for new business coming to the Midwest."

The company has been offered up to $700,000 in conditional tax credits and training grants through the Indiana Economic Development Corp. and the city of Portage has approved its own package of incentives. Indiana Secretary of Commerce visited MCP and Plazit Industries Group executives during a trade mission to Israel in January. In July, another plastics manufacturer, Polyram Group, announced plans for a facility in Evansville that could employ 50 by 2022.
